Since purchasing the holding in 2021, the farm team has undergone an impressive transformation, developing the site into a fourishing multi-enterprise farm business and community. With a clear commitment to organic farming, they’ve joined the RAAP Programme and set out to model what they want to see: all food in England grown regeneratively for local humans.
With livestock, vegetable and agroforestry enterprises, as well as sales channels now taking shape, the next natural step is to make the best use of the farm’s produce and surplus through a value-adding commercial kitchen. This is not only for commercial reasons, but also to spark creativity and strengthen the connections between the farm’s many enterprises and the people involved.
The Ethos of the farm
The farm follows these principles:
- Explorative: Sometimes we do listen to our mothers’ wisdom, and sometimes we decide to ignore it wholeheartedly and make our own mistakes.
- Bold: We are aware that some people won’t like what we are doing – putting up polytunnels, planting trees in the middle of what were perfectly good mono-species fields, but we are ok with that
- Hungry: We are keen to learn, to engage with other people doing things differently.
- Collaborative: We realise that even if we get everything right and produce fantastic food, we are but a small drop in a large ocean. We collaborate to learn, to connect with those around us and to help propagate new ideas.
- Fun: We try not to take ourselves too seriously. Serious is tiring.
